About my journey

My yoga journey started in 2015. As with the majority of fellow yogis I meet, people tend to gravitate towards yoga when they need it most in their lives. I needed somewhere I could breathe, explore my emotions and feel safe doing it. I fell in love with vinyasa flow immediately and have yet to find a style I connect with in a more complete way. In 2016, I wanted to deepen my understanding of yoga and so my partner and I booked ourselves into a Sicilian surf and yoga retreat. The yoga teacher (who would later guide me on my own yoga teacher training course), opened up a whole new dimension. Not only was the physical practice challenging, but I started to learn more about pranayama (breath work), philosophy and the history of yoga. I knew I was a goner and that my life would never be the same again. I returned home and read everything recommended to me by my various teachers and became a regular visitor to my Sicilian retreat.

Education and experience

In 2019, my teacher in Sicily promoted her 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training course. I knew immediately this was the universe calling to me. What she didn't know about yoga, wasn't worth knowing. I had always said to her, if she ever did a teacher training I would be the first to sign up. She confirmed to me that I was the first. I'm a woman of my word! The training exceeded the standard 200 hour requirement in order to teach yoga, and was over the course of 6-9 months including pre-reading, with the extra 50 hours being gained by incredible anatomy knowledge. This is why teaching functional yoga is so important to me. Having learnt that we are all built and move differently, one size does not fit all, and with greater understanding of how the body works, I can offer variations and options to my students which may provide opportunities to advance deeper into their physical practice.

Upon completion of my 250 hour teacher training course, I threw myself into teaching, teaching a professional teaching gym, my place of work and to friends. When the 2020 pandemic hit the UK, my “in-person” classes stopped and I immediately took my classes online. The world shifted and so did my teaching. I was teaching yin yoga, guided meditations with Yoga Nidra, full 60 minute + vinyasa flow classes and morning sun salutation classes. I absolutely love it! I also arranged a 5-day virtual yoga tour around the Lake District. My students joined me in discovering different beauty spots each morning, with a different theme and sequence to match the breath-taking scenery. For those who couldn’t make a morning class, I offered the recording so they wouldn’t miss out. Watch this space for more opportunities like to come in the future!

Vision

My vision for my students working with me, is to provide them with a full online yoga experience. It gives my students the opportunity to practice in the comfort of their own home without the worry of babysitters, where to park, what to wear and pack. You are at home! I also want to show my students that you don't have to be incredibly bendy and flexible to do yoga. One of my favourite infamous quotes is "to say you are not flexible enough for yoga is to say you are too dirty to take a bath". I want people to find the space and peace in their mind and bodies. To reconnect with themselves, to not be a slave to their anxieties and to fully realise their strength and ability on and off their mat!

Acknowledgment

I know it's unusual for there to be an acknowledgements for a website, but I think anytime is the right time to show gratitude and there are a few people I would like to specifically thank. Firstly I would like to acknowledge my yoga teachers who have inspired and guided me down this path, together with their teachers who have inspired them, Charlotte Suman Levy, Jules Laville and my yoga teacher trainer Ameriga Giannone, who is simply incredible.

I'd also like to thank the talented Steve Lewington at Bassclefphoto for the stunning photographs on this website.

Not only did he complete research into the philosophy of yoga but he captured my vision perfectly. This website would not be possible with the creative Mantas Gaidauskas from MantasG Designs. I think the website speaks for itself, showcasing his professionalism as well as his patience and attention to detail.

Lastly I would like to thank my partner Ross who continually encourages me in every possible way. Without his ingenuity and support, I know I would not have been brave enough to take those first steps down this amazing path.
